2022 Ford Maverick checklist
Print it or keep it on your phone. Tick each item as you go so nothing gets missed.
Inspect the car
- Check every panel gap and look for mismatched paint (signs of past accident repair)
- Look at the tires: even wear, matching brands, at least 4/32" tread
- Check under the car and engine bay for oil, coolant or other leaks
- Start the engine cold; listen for knocks, ticks or squeals and watch for smoke
- Test every window, lock, seat, light, the A/C, heat and infotainment
- Test drive on city streets and highway: straight braking, smooth shifts, no pulling
- Ask for the service records and a vehicle history report
- Have an independent mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection (about $100–$200)
Known 2022 Ford Maverick problems to check
- Ford's hybrid powertrain (2.5L Atkinson-cycle) has reported occasional stuttering or hesitation under hard acceleration in early 2022 model year units — a software update typically resolves this
- Rear seat legroom is tight for adults over 6 feet, limiting long-trip comfort and potentially affecting resale appeal to families
- Some owners report panel gaps and minor fit-and-finish issues from the Hermosillo, Mexico assembly plant, particularly around the tailgate and door seals
- The standard 2.0L EcoBoost (non-hybrid) trims have shown turbo boost pressure and intercooler hose issues around 30,000–50,000 miles — worth inspecting at purchase
- Ford's SYNC 4 infotainment occasionally requires resets; the 8-inch screen lacks wireless Apple CarPlay on base XL trims
